Objectives:
The overall objective of this project is to improve the quality of education in four public schools (Fnaidiq, Mishmish, Hrar and Akkar al-Atiqa) in the deprived rural area of Upper Akkar, by working on the establishment of a child centered and non-violent learning environment for children.
Description:
- Training for 67 teachers from 4 schools on non-violent teaching methods and child rights
- 14 awareness sessions for parents on pedagogical issues
- Training parents committees on their rights and responsibilities on how to reach out to parents
- Provision of sport and art classes for students in 4 public schools

Increasing the Attractiveness of Scientific Subjects for Students  [↑]

Objectives:
This project aims at making scientific subjects more appealing for students, by organizing mobile exhibitions on earthquakes in secondary public schools, offering students an interactive participatory learning experience, thus increasing the joy of learning. Prior to the exhibition a teachers’ training will be organized to build their capacity and enable them to guide the students and properly manage the exhibition. To ensure project sustainability an educational kit on earthquakes will be provided to the schools.

- Training of 37 science and geography teachers
- Mobile exhibitions on earthquakes in 14 secondary public schools for students
- Developing an educational kit and distributing it to 14 secondary public schools
Inspiring and Empowering At-Risk Youth in Rural Communities of Upper Akkar  [↑]

Objectives:
This project seeks to mobilize and empower youth through building their capacities and forming informal youth clubs in four schools. These will serve as a platform in which youth can analyse their needs and develop solutions to their problems. This project will support youth in taking pro-active steps to address one of their needs through a small budget for implementing a project involving lobbying local actors for support and mobilizing and inspiring their peers.

- Establishing youth groups in 4 villages surrounding the NNP (Fnaidiq, Akkar al-Atiqa, Mishmish and Hrar)

- Developing an environmental education tool kit in Arabic displaying the natural richness of the area and distributing it to 38 schools

- Interactive environmental play for children from 6 to 10 years old

Objectives:
The project aims at identifying the possible causes of school failure in Akkar and to reinforce teachers’ capacity to enable them to better assist students in order to reduce dropout. A special attention will be given to the situation of children with disability.
Description:
- A comprehensive assessment on education services and reasons for high dropout rates conducted in 38 schools, covering 20 municipalities in the area surrounding the NNP
- A capacity building training program for 63 teachers from 25 schools in 13 municipalities, on child protection, teaching methodology, classroom management and Subject Coordination (French, math, and science)
- Developing educational manual for teachers
